Our goal is to design new houses and alterations which not only serve the functional needs of our clients but also reflect their spirit and character. A house should be a place its owner looks forward to returning to, and heaves a sigh of relief and pleasure when he or she gets there.
Because a house is so personal, we get to know our clients well before we start drawing. We know their functional needs, and their passion for quality. We try to understand what they hope their house will do for their lives. We also come to grips with their financial situation, so that the level of investment in the final product will be appropriate for their situation.
We meet with each client – often a couple - as frequently as desired during the design process. Options are presented until the right chord is struck. And as the details of the project are developed we meet with them to be sure they understand what they are getting. One measure of success is that clients get what they expect – only that they like it more than they imagined they would. If our client is a couple, it’s important that both attend our design meetings. Both care equally about satisfaction with the final product, even if one may be more verbal in our discussions. We often ask our clients questions about design or planning issues they may never have discussed and have sharply different points of view. We can give suggestions or information which may help them reach a resolution.
Our role is to plan the use of the site as well as the building. Our design progresses from site planning down to the smallest detail on the lavatory sink.
In these times of financial uncertainty value for dollars expended is more important than ever. We provide value in efficient planning, energy conservation, and selection of materials.
A successful project is a happy integration of beauty, function, client idiosyncrasies, project management and technical coordination. We are organized, creative, yet sensitive to both architecture and our clients, so that all of these elements come together in a balanced whole.
We provide full range service, from initial concept discussions through creative design, working drawings, specifications and construction observation. Fees are a percentage of final construction cost, with billing for initial work on an hourly basis until scope and budget are established.
Let us talk to you about your long range plans. We may be able to provide worthwhile guidance, whether you are hoping to proceed immediately with construction or are planning for the future.
